Exploring Tailwater Adventures: A Three-Day Journey with Jeremy and Jake

Exploring Tailwater Adventures: A Three-Day Journey with Jeremy and Jake

Embarking on several multi-boat expeditions with Jeremy and Jake, I navigated the upper stretches of the White and Norfork rivers over the course of three days.

Thursday brought us to the White River, where we aimed to capitalize on high water levels in hopes of a shad bite. However, arriving slightly late to the party, we found the water already receding, contrary to the forecast. While the conditions showed a promising bite had the high water lingered, the slow bite on minimum flow and made catching browns a challenge, leaving us unable to seize the opportunity.

Day two found our group navigating the bustling floodgate waters of the Norfork River. Despite the crowded river, the bite remained robust, particularly in my boat, where fluorescent orange blob flies with root beer midge droppers proved highly effective. While the caddis made an appearance, Sunday specials droppers failed in comparison to the effectiveness of the midges.

On day three, I teamed up with Jake Smith for another group outing, our boats were loaded with three anglers each, limiting our navigational options with the higher flows on the river.  I started the day off early with blob flies and cerise worms as the point fly and quickly utilized the blobs the rest of the day.  Experimenting with various midge patterns and nymphs from; root beer midges, lightning bugs and a few new cdc euros we have in the shop we enjoyed a fast-paced, productive day.  I am not sure how long the water will last but if you want to keep a rod bent the Norfork is the place to be!
